Alpacas are herd animals and will not walk on their own. A minimum of 2 alpacas must be booked for the session to take place. The maximum number of alpacas will be 6. You may share the experience with others.
Once you’ve booked and paid you will receive a confirmation email with details of how to find us, what time to arrive, what to bring and where to park.
We do not allow additional spectators on the walks/experiences. Those not participating may wait at the car parking area.
Dogs are not permitted anywhere on site and may not be left in cars in the car park.
What to expect:
-The meet & greet experience will last up to an hour and include a welcome talk, safety briefing, meeting a selection of our Alpaca boys, learning about their care & personalities as well as feeding them.
The walk experience will last up to 2 hours and includes a welcome talk, safety briefing, meeting & walking the Alpacas, learning about their care and feeding them.
The experience will take place on Geufron Farm’s private paddocks. The route/experience location within the paddocks will be decided by the group leader on the day.
Experiences will be on grassy, uneven ground and include uphill sections. Alpacas walk slowly and the walk will be at their pace with regular stops for photos and to enjoy your time with your Alpaca.
Walking Alpacas may not be suitable for everyone. While we have a choice of walks the hillside nature of our farm means it is not an easy walk and involves walking on grass fields, wet & uneven surfaces and uphill. It is essential that you can walk uphill while having two hands on the lead rope.
Please let us know before booking about any health or other issues that we should be aware of, and we’ll be happy to discuss if/how your experience could be tailored so you can enjoy your time with the Alpacas.

Arriving
The main gate will open 10 minutes before the start time of the experience and locked again at the start time.
Free parking is provided for one car per booking.
If you think you may be late, please call us on 07712553751. Arrivals after the start time will be treated as a ‘no show’.
As our alpaca experiences often have different groups of customers going out on the same experience, we cannot ‘delay’ a walk for customers who turn up late. We are unable to refund if you miss your scheduled start time.
All guests must attend the safety briefing where you will be instructed on the safety aspects of the walk and how to walk your alpaca to ensure his comfort and safety. Details of this briefing are listed below.
All adults will be asked to sign waiver form to confirm that they have:
– Read and understood this information
– Attended and understood the safety briefing and had the opportunity to ask questions about any aspect that are unclear to them.
Customers who do not sign this will not be allowed to participate on the Alpaca Experience. A parent or responsible adult will be required to sign for and on behalf of children under the age of 16 years old.
Anyone not following these guidelines may be asked to leave without a refund.
It is important that all adults & children remain calm and quiet, without making any sudden movements during the experience.
Children
While most adults can handle a haltered alpaca, young or small children may struggle.
Children aged 13+ may lead an alpaca with the agreement of their responsible adult and the walk leader.
All children of 12 years and under must be accompanied by a supervising adult (aged 18years+).
Children under 8 are not permitted to lead an alpaca on a walk but will be welcomed to feed and interact with them, under the close supervision of their accompanying adult, at safe points during the walk.
It is important that all children are closely supervised by their responsible adult and the adult is ready to step in to help them when needed.
Our Walking Experiences are not suitable for pushchairs or walking aids. Please speak to us before booking so that we can help you to enjoy a suitable Meet & Greet Experience with our alpacas.
Dogs
Strictly no dogs anywhere on the Antur Alpaca site. Our Alpacas are not used to any dogs and will react to them, so we ask that no dogs are brought onto the Antur Alpaca site, into the parking area or left in cars.
We’ll be delighted to suggest local dog friendly walks where you can exercise your dog while the rest of your group interacts with the alpacas.
What to wear
On your feet: Please wear sturdy shoes that cover your whole foot and have good grips e.g. walking boots or wellies.
Don’t come in your best white trainers, they will become dirty.
We cannot allow you to join the Alpaca Walk if you are wearing unsuitable footwear such as flip flops, sliders, crocs or high heels. A refund will not be provided in this instance.
You must use the foot dip on arrival to preserve our bio-security.
Clothing: We suggest wearing long trousers.
Avoid wearing or bringing anything that might flap, rattle or distract the Alpacas when you walk e.g. long skirts, open coats, back packs.
Umbrellas are not permitted at our experiences. Waterproofs are suggested for wet weather walks. Please dress for the weather on the day and plan ahead as the weather in the valley can change quickly
About the Alpacas
Alpacas will not want to come to you when they are relaxing in their field. They will back away if you reach out to touch them over the fence.
When on their halter they will happily walk with you but will want their own space while they get to know & trust you.
Alpacas are herd animal and want to walk together. They also have an order they like to walk in. Your walker leader may periodically ask the front walkers to stop and wait while the ones at the back catch up.
Guests are not permitted to handle the alpacas alone or to leave the main group with your alpaca.
Talk to your Alpaca in a soft voice so they can get to know and trust you.
Keep your movements slow and use a quiet voice.
To stroke your Alpaca do so slowly & lightly with the back of your hand on the side of their neck.
Do not grab, cuddle or scratch your Alpaca or touch them on the back, head, tail or rump.
Walking with your Alpaca:
We will start the walk with your Alpaca on the right side of you. This ensures that they all start the walk in a line behind each other.
Ensure the lead rope doesn’t wrap around the alpaca’s neck. If it does, hold the end and carefully reposition yourself moving around the front of your alpaca.
Keep your distance: Alpacas can kick if startled or crowded. Guests must keep a safe distance from the rear of their animal and the animal walking in front. Supervising adults must be especially aware of their children’s proximity to the Alpaca’s hind legs.
The lead has a knot at the end to prevent it from slipping out of your hand.
Don’t wrap the lead around your hand, body or neck; you need to be able to release it quickly if necessary.
Alpacas prefer a loose lead and will resist being dragged. Encourage them with short, gentle tugs: pull – release – pull – release, giving them time to assess the situation.
If your alpaca is hesitant, try releasing the pressure or moving slightly to the left so they can see past you. They may just need a little more space.
If you’re at risk of falling or being dragged, drop the lead.
If you drop the lead, don’t panic. Your Alpaca will not want to leave the herd unless they are scared or startled. Calmly let your walk leader know, and they will retrieve the lead for you.
Photos: We want you to take lots of photos (& tag us!). It is important that while walking your Alpaca you concentrate on them & where you are walking. We will have regular stops for photographs on the flat sections of the walks and during the meet & greet experience. Your guides will be happy to hold your alpaca while you take photos of your group and to take photos of you with your Alpaca.
Cancelling your visit
A bit of light rain or wind won’t stop the walk so please dress appropriately for the conditions on the day.
We reserve the right to reschedule your walk in circumstances beyond our control. This includes if the weather or ground conditions mean it is unsafe for the Alpacas to walk. We will issue a full refund if rebooking is not possible.
If we need to cancel your visit, we will email you at the email address you have provided on your booking.
You may cancel your booking up to 72 hours before the walk start time. After this time, we cannot issue refunds if you choose not to take part in the walk when we deem it safe for the walk to go ahead.
